Angelina Jolie stars in the December 21st DVD release of Salt, directed by Phillip Noyce. This Sony Pictures film is an action-packed thriller about CIA agent Evelyn Salt (Jolie), who goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.
After Salt’s cover is blown and she realizes that her husband has been taken, she makes a run for cover while fleeing the CIA and FBI. She must stay one step ahead to complete her mission, learn the truth about her colleagues on both sides (US and Russian), and most importantly, keep herself alive.
Jolie proves why she is the most credible female action star on the planet today. From Tomb Raider, to Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Wanted, and now with Salt, she has established herself as a much more believable action character than drama player.
Unfortunately, Salt is an example of a movie that had significantly more time and resources invested in action scenes that it did in story development. Fans of great action movies will love the explosions, fight scenes and Salt’s take no prisoner’s approach to fighting.
Fans of well-developed plots and thorough stories will find Salt lacking. It is a perfect example of a movie that surprises you when the credits role. You find yourself wondering where is the rest of the story. Part of this is likely the fact that the conclusion left open the possibility for a Salt sequel.
However, much of it has to do with poor character development, a rushed set up to the main storyline, and modest interaction between characters that turn out as to be the main players in the film.
Liev Schreiber is a nice actor who does well in the right roles. His effort in Salt is solid, but his character in particular was under developed. Chiwetel Ejiofor is a brilliant actor who is too big for his role as the perplexed FBI agent trying to do his job, yet wondering what Salt’s real purpose is.
Salt is a nice big screen action experience with lots of great visuals and sounds to fill up your theater room. With a PG-13 rating, it is also semi-family friendly despite plenty of violence. The story, however, is outdone by the actors and the action.

Great revciew! I love Angelina Jolie, and will definately rent this movie!
I enjoyed this film. Some of the historical plot points and the intrigue of the Cold War Era surprised me with its authenticity; especially the child soldier program which did actually happen. I loved the action sequences and Angelina Jolie truly kicks *ss!
